Kit Bittner, Contra Costa County Volunteer Spotlight

Kit Bittner came to Women’s Initiative as an intern in the fall of 2011, but it became clear very quickly
that she has amazing expertise that has helped our Contra Costa office tremendously. Kit had been home raising kids for the last 7 years and is looking to re-enter the workforce, since her kids are nearing college age. Her career has been spent mostly in the biotechnology sector and she said, “I wanted to change my direction and do something more meaningful for me.”

Kit was inspired to come to Women’s Initiative because of the ripple effect created by putting women
to work in their own businesses – the ripple through their families, their kids’ future, and in the
community. Growing up with a single parent in Cape Cod, Kit understands the experience of growing up
without much opportunity or money. She put herself through college and earned an MBA.

When Kit is not supporting every side of our Concord office (from event planning and staffing to calling clients and business connectors, from administrative work and data entry to reorganizing and filing for
our SBA compliance), she is home with her kids, hiking with her two dogs, and taking art classes.

Ian Philabaum, Successlink/AVANCE Specialist, has said about Kit, “Not only does she do great work and iis a pleasure to be around, but she also makes delicious fresh-squeezed fruit and vegetable beverages for the office!” We are so grateful for Kit’s energy and incredible work – she enables our offices to get much more done, and we look forward to welcoming her in our Oakland office to work with our grants team this spring!
